Hi there! My name is Jan Hunter
and I am the owner of Bee Happy Candles
located in beautiful Thunder
Bay, Ontario, Canada. I began my
journey to self employment in
2000 and have enjoyed the
challenges, changes and the
growth from that point on.
For the first two years of self
employment (2000-2002) I tried
a couple of different things.
One of them was bookkeeping
which I had done for the
previous 8+ years. I soon
discovered that I was allergic
to bookkeeping....it made me
break out in stress.
As a result of that I decided to
concentrate on candle making and
in January of 2002, Bee Happy
Candles began. It has long been
my mission statement to just
"Bee Happy" so I thought that it
would be a very fitting name for
my company.
From 2002 until 2004 I worked
with paraffin wax. Then, in 2004
I switched over to soy wax and
to bees wax; this was the best
move I ever made! Even after all
these years I still get so
excited to go to work, I
absolutely love my job!!!
My co-worker is a black lab
named Zaida, and I work with
wonderful waxes and fantastic
fragrances.....can it get any
better than this?!
I am really happy to bee a home
based business, open by chance
or by appointment. I do some
shows in Thunder Bay and
surrounding areas, you can check
in at Shows to find the
schedule. You will also find any
times and dates of open
houses if applicable.
When I am not doing shows, I am
usually in the workshop pouring
and creating which is where I am
the happiest. Wedding orders
keep me quite busy during the
summer and I have even had one
bride book her order over 1 1/2
years in advance. She was very
prepared.
Even though Bee Happy Candles
are only available for sale in
Canada, people have purchased
and sent Bee Happy Candles all
around the world as gifts. There
is a cappuccino cup candle
somewhere in Scotland, and a
local lady brought 25 blueberry
muffins with her to Peru. Other
gifts that I know of have been
sent to Australia, Finland,
France, England
and Germany to name a few.
